DURHAM, N.C.—Duke field hockey seniors Alaina McVeigh and Paige Bitting were named to the 2025-26 Academic All-District At-Large teams as selected by College Sports Communicators. McVeigh was tabbed a finalist and will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

This is the second consecutive Academic All-District recognition for McVeigh and the first for Bitting. Academic All-America honorees will be announced July 8.

These are just the latest academic awards for the duo. McVeigh is a two-time ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year, while Bitting has won NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors in each of her four seasons.

The pair have been instrumental in Duke’s success throughout their careers. McVeigh has led the team in scoring each of the past three seasons and Bitting has been the steady force in the midfield for the Blue Devils throughout her four years.

This past season McVeigh became the second Blue Devil to earn three consecutive All-ACC first-team honors since the league started compiling two teams in 2013. She is the 12th Duke player to pick up three All-ACC honors in her career.

The Lansdale, Pennsylvania product led the Blue Devil offense with 15 goals and nine assists for a career-best 39 points this season. The 15 markers tied for 14th Duke single-season history while the 39 points are tied for 20th. McVeigh scored a goal in 11 games and had multiple goals in four games this season. She notched game winners in four games, including the 2-1 victory over Iowa in the NCAA Championship first round.

A starter in 79 of 82 games, Bitting was one of Duke’s most consistent players over the previous four campaigns. She contributed four assists as a defensive midfielder and helped Duke to a 51-31 record during her career.

The Blue Devils finished last year 13-8 overall, advancing to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals.
