In a message to customers, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: “Due to an unexpected incident at our shop, we regret to inform you that we will be temporarily closed from today until further notice.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and truly appreciate your understanding and support during this time.”

Local resident David, who did not want to give his surname, said he witnessed the aftermath of the crash.

“You could just see the back of the car about a foot inside, so you could tell how deep it had gone into the shop,” he said.

“It could have hit someone on the pavement as it passed through or people sitting in the shop.”

Police said no arrests have yet been made, adding that officers were “carrying out enquiries to ascertain the circumstances of the collision”.
