Drain’s only grocery store, Ray’s Food Place, is set to close next month.

The last day will be February 13th.

With the store closing other options for residents would be in other cities nearby such as Yoncalla, Cottage Grove, and even further south in Roseburg.

With some residents unable to drive, one local says the loss of Ray’s could be devastating.

“There’s a lot of people sad because the ones that can’t drive, if you wanted something, it was there. They did have a good selection. I’m going to miss it. I run over there and get something for baking, I don’t have to go to town,” said Sandi Malchow, “We do have dollar general, and that helps, but they don’t have everything.”

Malchow says residents have already offered to help one another by driving to get each other groceries, with others considering getting their groceries shipped in.

This closure comes after a US Bank closed it’s only location in Drain, on January 15th.
