Tea and Triumph as Roman Dubowski scoops £1 Million on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
- Roman Dubowski became the seventh contestant to scoop £1 million on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, celebrating his massive win with nothing more than a quiet cup of tea.
- The former IT analyst from Stockport looked shaky early on when he needed the audience’s help for a £1,000 question about mayonnaise. But after phoning his sister to secure £4,000, the quiz fanatic powered through to claim the top prize.
- The million-pound question asked which trademark logo used since 1876 appeared in James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’ and works by Picasso and Manet. Roman took less than two minutes to use his 50-50 lifeline before answering Bass Ale, drawing on his memory of a Manet painting.
- “It’s because of the painting,” he told astonished host Jeremy Clarkson, who responded: “That is fantastic. Yes! A million pounds. Enjoy it.”
- Roman revealed his winning strategy: “One of my strategies was to stay calm and not rush to speak slowly and think things through rather than jump at an answer. I could picture the barmaid and, crucially, the red triangle of Bass beer in the image.”
- The millionaire has grown a goatee beard hoping he won’t be recognised and pestered for cash when he’s out and about, but he’ll still be buying his quiz teammates a drink this Thursday.
