“Going parabolic” is, despite how excited some investors get when they hear it, just a term that describes the shape that a certain type of bull run draws on an asset’s price chart. Seeing a parabola doesn’t say much about the durability of the gains over the long term — and most of the time, parabolic behavior of an asset doesn’t last for long, leaving those who bought the top with brutal losses; earlier buyers keep gains only if they sell before the break.
With that said, if the stars align, XRP (CRYPTO: XRP) could go parabolic in 2027, but only if three specific tailwinds arrive together. None of them are blowing right now, so let’s take a look and see what would need to happen for that to change.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a “Double Down” signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same “Total Conviction” signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
What would it take for XRP to go parabolic?
One spark that’d help to send XRP’s price into a parabolic trajectory would be if financial institutions were to start parking vast sums of their assets on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) via tokenization.
Tradeable tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), such as stocks or bonds or other assets recorded as blockchain tokens, were, as a group, worth $496.5 million on the XRPL. A true parabolic run would probably need to see that sum roughly quadruple in a fairly short time period so as to make XRPL one of the top five blockchains by RWA value. But the XRPL’s base of parked assets was essentially flat over the 30-day period ending Oct. 13.
A second spark for a parabola would be for Ripple, the company behind XRP, to keep supplying investors with favorable headlines to build enthusiasm for investments in the coin. Whatever major announcements the company can issue about XRP specifically would be favorable. It’s my assessment that presently a major XRP bull run isn’t possible without some new energy injected by Ripple.
The final spark could be falling interest rates, which would have the effect of pushing investors toward riskier assets. A new federal crypto rulebook of regulations giving banks and other financial institutions some confidence to move capital onto crypto networks would also be quite helpful.
Keep an open mind, but don’t hold your breath here
XRP probably won’t go parabolic, as these tailwinds are not yet in force, and they might not be.
Regulations just hit a major speed bump. On Sept. 15, the Senate voted against advancing the Clarity Act, the crypto market structure bill. Reviving it means clearing both chambers again, which might not happen. Regulators from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) might end up advancing a new package of rules within the next year or so, but even those wouldn’t have the same heft as legislation.
