ME News reports that on August 27 (UTC+8), the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued a consumer alert warning that scammers often impersonate government agencies, investment firms, utility providers, or technical support personnel to trick victims into withdrawing cash from their banks and depositing it into crypto ATMs (Bitcoin ATMs / crypto kiosks) via designated wallet addresses or QR codes—funds transferred in this manner are typically irreversible. According to data from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, losses from scams involving crypto ATMs exceeded $3.88 billion in 2025, a 58% increase from the previous year.
