MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Educators got to learn fun ways to help their students learn archaeology and culture in the classroom.
‘Ojibwe Culture and Archaeology Teacher Workshop’ was held by Project Archaeology and discussed Ojibwe culture with a speaker and hands on learning. Educators, archaeologists and indigenous speakers worked on a mock archaeology site to learn how to interpret a site and how to bring that information back to their students.
Project Archeology Network Director Courtney Agenten hopes students of these teachers can learn a deeper understanding of different cultures.
“The vision for Project Archaeology is for people to understand and appreciate their own culture and appreciate the culture that’s different from their own,” Agenten said. “I really want them to think about what can objects tell us about people and what can history reveal about people.”
Agenten hopes to be able to hold this workshop again in the near future.
