After a season of shocking blockbuster returns became perhaps Hollywood’s best summer ever, Fall’s Film Preview sparkles with unabashed hope as a prelude to a gigantic Thanksgiving-Christmas Holiday blow-out. As always, dates may change.
“Resident Evil” (Sept. 18) is the R-rated IMAX franchise reboot from writer-director Zach Cregger.
“Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom” (Sept. 18) has a Halloween theme for this third outing in the stop-motion animated series.
“If I Go Will They Miss Me” (Sept. 18) A father-son story of a Black family in LA’s Watts neighborhood. With Danielle Brooks.
“Heart of the Beast” (Sept. 25) finds Brad Pitt in survival mode with man’s best friend, his German Shepherd, after crash-landing in the Alaskan wilderness.
“Primetime” (Sept. 25) Robert Pattinson produced and stars as television host Chris Hansen whose controversial “To Catch a Predator” series resembles a quick slide into Hell.
“Digger” (Oct. 2) Easily the season’s most intriguing entry is this satirical black comedy from Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu who is joined on the comeback trail with a plump Tom Cruise, looking for Oscar attention as a plump billionaire.
“Verity” (Oct. 2) In this psychological thriller, the big name in a cast that boasts Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett is mega-bestselling feminist author Colleen Hoover.
“The Social Reckoning” (Oct. 9) The sequel to the ground-breaking “The Social Network” with Jeremy Strong (as Mark Zuckerberg!), Jeremy Allen and, in her first post-Oscar winning role, Mikey Madison.
“Whalefall” (Oct. 16) Being swallowed by a sperm whale? Not a day in the park for Austin Abrams who has just one hour of oxygen to break free.
“Wicker” (Oct. 23, expanding Oct. 30) Wildly fanciful medieval village storytelling with Olivia Colman having basketmaker Peter Dinklage make her, yes! a wicker husband (Alexander Skarsgård) who satisfies all her expectations.
“Godzilla Minus Zero” (Nov. 6) The first-ever “Godzilla” filmed in Japan in IMAX is set in 1949 and follows (naturally) the Oscar-winning “Godzilla Minus One.”
“Being Heumann” (limited theatrical Nov. 6) “CODA” Oscar winning filmmaker Siân Heder salutes the life and activism of disability rights pioneer Judith Heumann.
