DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) — Over 30 elementary school students became ill during a school field trip to the movie theater earlier this week.
The incident was confirmed by Jennifer Passmore, the public information officer for Dorchester School District Two.
The first and second-grade students were from Eugene Sires Elementary School.
The name of the movie theater was not released.
In total, 32 students got sick and were seen by the school nurse.
The teacher chaperone on the field trip immediately notified school administrators, and the district nursing staff was “promptly dispatched” to assess the situation on Monday.
The Department of Health was also notified.
It was determined that it was safe to take the sick students back to campus, where they were treated by the school nurse and EMS. Their families were contacted as well.
“Student safety and care remain among our highest priorities,” read a message sent to parents whose children attend Eugene Sires Elementary. “We appreciate the quick response of our staff and healthcare personnel as we continue to monitor the situation and support our students and families.”
