WASHINGTON – Following a sweep of their races at the GW Invitational, the Georgetown University women’s openweight Second Varsity 8+ (2V8) has earned Patriot League Honorable Mention for Boat of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

This recognition highlights a resilient weekend for the Hoyas on their home water. Just one week after being forced to scratch in Philadelphia due to a mid-race collision, the 2V8 returned to the Potomac River to post two of the most dominant margins of the regatta.

Competing in the morning session against Fordham, the Hoya crew—coxed by Phoebe Opler and stroked by Sophia Grossman—crossed the finish line with a time of 6:40.96, securing a 15.5-second margin of victory. The crew found even more speed in the afternoon session, clocking a 6:34.15 to defeat Duquesne by nearly 20 seconds. Notably, the 2V8’s afternoon mark was the fastest time recorded by any Georgetown boat during that session.
