WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – KWCH and Devaughn Injury Lawyers presented Wichita Littlest Heroes with a $1,200 Helping Hand during its annual fundraising event at Mid Kansas Auto Auction.

The local nonprofit supports children and families dealing with life-threatening medical conditions.

“They do this sale once a year. It’s called the Helping Hand Sale and it’s so much fun. They raise a lot of money. Last year, I think they raised over $30,000 for Wichita Littlest Heroes,” said Briana Gallegos, director of operations and fundraising at Wichita Littlest Heroes.

Gallegos said the organization serves more than 800 families across Kansas.

“We do that by financial assistance. We try to fill the gap where people can’t get that money, so we’re paying for rent, mortgages, electric bills, medical supplies and we’re able to say yes when a lot of other organizations have to say no,” Gallegos said.

In addition to financial assistance, Wichita Littlest Heroes hosts monthly themed events, informational lunches, and provides zoo and museum memberships to enrolled families.

“We have over 20 free events for our families, zoo and museum memberships, so when they’re not in between doctors appointments and hospitals and things like that, they can go to the zoo and Botanica, because those are the first things that fall off, you know,” Gallegos said.
