Knox County conservative campaign consultant Erik Wiatr wants Tennessee election officials to weigh in on a mailer that he says violates campaign finance laws. The mailer features Wiatr and four candidates he works for who are running for county office.
The state’s ruling about the mailer won’t have a direct effect on the May 5 primary races, but Wiatr’s request for state officials to get involved reflects the boiling tension between opposing factions in the local Republican Party.
