Students in Erika Licausi’s Fashion Design classes at William Floyd High School recently hosted their first-ever fashion show in the WFHS courtyard! This event served as a way to showcase the hard work and talent of current and former fashion design students as they debuted their original creations to the school community. Students either self-modeled or had their peers model their eye-catching fashion designs and walked down the runway with a well-deserved round of applause from an audience of students, teachers and administrators!
About Fashion Design
Fashion Design is a half-year course offered to juniors and seniors that emphasizes innovation, creativity and technical skill as each student studies the historical development of fashion and uses various materials to design and create fashion.
Students who successfully complete the Fashion Design course or receive recommendation from an instructor can then move on to Fashion Design II, in which they build upon their prior experiences in Fashion Design to research current fashion styles and trends, design clothing and accessories, up-cycle clothing, utilize technology in fashion design and explore career options in related industries. Additionally, students are introduced to simple sewing projects, have the opportunity to design and produce t-shirts, construct accessories/garments and work with students from the Fashion Marketing course to complete a culminating design and business plan.
