Kotel entered the day tied for 19th place when he teed off on the back nine. He opened his round with back-to-back birdies and then followed with another on the par-four, 393-yard No. 15 hole. Kotel’s only blemish was a double bogey on the par-three, 196-yard No. 4 hole. He closed out his round with five pars and a birdie on the par-five, 623-yard No. 7 hole.
First-round leader Eastern Michigan leads the nine-team field at 16-over par. The Eagles saw their eight-shot lead diminish to one stroke ahead of Miami in today’s action.
Northern Illinois’ Patrick Raupp and EMU’s Joshua Hess are tied for the individual lead at even-par.
The Rockets are scheduled to tee off at 8:00 a.m. off the No. 10 tee in Tuesday’s final round.
