Is Nicole Kidman’s new rumoured boyfriend, Michael Reinstein, fluent in her love languages?

Nicole Kidman might have a new boyfriend. But first, let’s backtrack a bit to why she has a new boyfriend which, a little more than a year ago, she may not have ever expected.

It was in the fall 2025, not even a year ago, that news first broke that Nicole and Keith Urban were over. And according to reports, he was the one who wanted out of their marriage while she’d been trying to save it. Once it became public though, they formalised their split pretty quickly with a parenting agreement where Nicole would be with their daughters 80% of the time – 306 days out of the year to his 50. And indeed in the time that’s passed since the divorce, we’ve only seen Sunday and Faith with their mother and not with their father.

Nicole was on holiday with her family in Portofino last week, she was seen with her sister and her girls and also, separately, with Michael Reinstein, now rumoured to be her new boyfriend. He’s a finance guy, worked on the business side of entertainment and then founded his own private equity firm. He and Nicole were seen looking flirty on day beds at the resort – Nicole is the “very demure, very mindful” type but if we’re playing Photo Assumption with these shots, there’s definitely some romantic energy between them. Nicole is an old fashioned romance kind of girl, that’s how she and Keith performed their love publicly at least, but for me that image started well before that, back to when she was with Tom Cruise.

It was that transcript and only experienced gossips would remember it, a phone call between Nicole and Tom intercepted through nefarious means that made public an argument the two were having before they ended their marriage. During the conversation, Nicole was complaining to Tom that he hadn’t made time for her, that he wasn’t doing the little things. “Did you give me anything? Did you give me a note, did you give me a bunch of flowers?” To which he responded, “Nic, did I get any flowers when I came back from Eyes Wide Shut? I was waiting here, I had the candles lit, I had a bath ready for you.”

Nicole Kidman speaks all the love languages. And whoever actually becomes her next paramour should be fluent in them. Remains to be seen if Michael Reinstein is fluent.

But back to that phone call that’s now in the Gossip Hall of Fame – and some novice on TikTok will probably “discover” it in a few days – there’s another connection here, a layer of gossip relevance that’s well-timed. Because it happened while Nicole was working Practical Magic. And now, all these years later, Practical Magic 2 is about to come out.

Not that far off now, the release date is approaching fast, September 11. Which means Nicole’s holiday is ending soon because for sure she’ll spend part of August on the press tour. Joey King just posted yesterday that the press tour has started. She and Maisie Williams were in New York on the weekend.

Only a matter of time then before they’re joined by their movie mom and aunt, Sandra Bullock and Nicole. Practical Magic 2 is opening right after Labour Day, not usually the most lucrative weekend at the movies, as people are preoccupied with back to school and new semesters. In the industry that’s also during the Venice Film Festival and the kickoff of TIFF this year and New York Fashion Week which will be during the final promotional push for the movie. That said, there are a lot of people who’ve been waiting a long time for this film, me included. It’s an understatement to say it has a cult following across generations, from X to Z. Those people – and it’s mostly women – will show up for sure.
