Who would have expected football to start mirroring fashion trends?

Lately, the pitch has been awash in pink. Across international competitions, players have embraced the colour, transforming what was once considered unconventional into one of the season’s most striking visual signatures.

Among the most memorable images was Inter Miami CF in May, when Lionel Messi and his teammates celebrated a goal clad head to toe in pink.

At the currently ongoing FIFA World Cup, goalkeepers Dominik Livakovic and Benjamin Asare have been spotted in vivid fuchsia kits.

This is no coincidence. Pink has emerged as one of football’s defining style cues, extending beyond jerseys to boots.

Reports suggest pink football boots are among the season’s most sought-after designs, with Nike, Adidas, Puma and New Balance all placing the hue at the centre of their latest collections.

According to GQ, the appeal is not purely aesthetic.

In interviews with footwear designers from leading sportswear brands, the magazine noted that pink enhances visibility on the pitch – evidence that one of fashion’s boldest shades has found a practical role in the modern game.

Its appeal in fashion has long rested on the same principle.

Pink draws the eye. Designers often deploy it to punctuate otherwise restrained collections, introducing a note of energy into more sober palettes.

Yet the colour has also been used to create pure spectacle. The Valentino Pink PP presentation in 2022 remains a benchmark for maximalist colour.

For that show, the entire set was drenched in Pink PP, a custom shade developed in collaboration with Pantone.

Today, pink remains firmly in fashion’s vocabulary, albeit in a softer register.

Dusky and powdery variations have emerged as the more sophisticated choice – understated but no less attention-grabbing.

The Spring/Summer 2026 collection from Chloe, for instance, featured several pink looks that demonstrated the colour’s quieter, more refined evolution.

There is even a growing trend for pink denim, with fashion personalities sharing their takes on social media.

Alexa Chung, for example, posted an outfit featuring pink denim contrasted with a black top; her jeans, coincidentally, were from Chloe.

Victoria Beckham has also embraced the shade.

At an event in April, she appeared on stage in a pink dress – a design of her own, while her Spring/Summer 2026 collection included numerous pieces in similar tones.

Meanwhile, fashion houses including Bottega Veneta, Tory Burch and Alaia all featured blush pink on their runways, each piece commanding attention without relying on spectacle.

From the football pitch to the runways, it is clear that pink has become this year’s big trend.

Plus, any debate about it being too feminine also feels increasingly outdated, especially when the colour is being confidently worn by athletes on the world stage.
